After a great start we hope to build on our incredible first year, History in Action is back — bigger, bolder and ready to bring the past to life once again.
Journey through thousands of years of human history, from Roman legionaries and medieval knights to Tudor craftspeople and wartime civilians. Explore living history encampments, watch thrilling demonstrations, discover traditional skills and hear fascinating stories from across the centuries.
With historical groups and reenactors from across Britain and Europe, there’s plenty to see and get involved in — from spectacular displays and hands-on activities to talks and a vibrant heritage market packed with period goods, books, collectables and curiosities.

Military Odyssey

Europe’s largest and most diverse multi-period living history event, captivating thousands of visitors every August Bank Holiday weekend, this extraordinary gathering celebrates the breadth and depth of human conflict and culture across more than 2,000 years of history. From the might of the Roman legions and the chivalry of medieval knights to the grit of the World Wars and modern-day military forces, every era comes vividly to life through authentic reenactments, expertly crafted displays, and passionate storytelling.
Throughout the showground, battle reenactments unfold with dramatic precision, immersing spectators in the tactics, sounds, and intensity of warfare through the ages. Meanwhile, living history encampments invite visitors to step back in time—meeting reenactors who share their deep knowledge of daily life, uniforms, and equipment from countless historical periods. The event also boasts an extensive military vehicle display, featuring everything from tanks and armored cars to vintage jeeps and motorcycles, each lovingly restored and presented in its historical context.
Beyond the battlefield, Military Odyssey offers something for everyone. Families can enjoy a vibrant programme of interactive activities, including jive lessons, children’s entertainment, and evening performances that keep the atmosphere lively well into the night. Eastbourne Armed Forces Day

Eastbourne is proud to host Armed Forces Day at Five Acre Field, bringing together the local community to honour and celebrate the men and women who serve, and have served, in the Armed Forces. This special event recognises the dedication, professionalism, and sacrifice of our service personnel, veterans, reservists, cadets, and their families.
Set in the open surroundings of Five Acre Field, the day offers a programme of activities, displays, and entertainment for all ages, providing an opportunity to learn more about the Armed Forces while enjoying a memorable day out. Armed Forces Day in Eastbourne is a chance to show our support, reflect on the values of service and commitment, and say thank you to those who protect our freedoms.
